Tony’s Open Chain (TOC) is an industry-led initiative dedicated to empowering chocolate brands to revolutionize their cocoa supply chains and lead the way in sustainability. By becoming Mission Allies of Tony's Open Chain, brands or retailers make a commitment to the five sourcing principles - e.g. traceability, paying the right price for cocoa and fostering long-term partnerships with cooperative partners - with the ultimate goal to end exploitation in cocoa together. To facilitate the participation of Mission Allies in Tony's Open Chain, we work with a growing set of chocolate processors to facilitate the sourcing of Tony’s Open Chain beans for the products of our Mission Allies. Among the Mission Allies who have already committed to sourcing cocoa through Tony's Open Chain are Tony’s Chocolonely, Albert Heijn, Jumbo, Hema, ALDI, Jokolade, Vly Foods, The Flower Farm, PLUS, KoRo Source, Feastables, Ben & Jerry's, Waitrose, Pip&Nut, Huel and Cococo. Your role
We are looking for a new Sales Manager to join our Tony’s Open Chain team to be based in Amsterdam, responsible for the Benelux region and (potential) Mission Allies based throughout the rest of mainland Europe.  In this role, your main goal will be to propel business growth by establishing new clients and expanding relationships with our current Mission Allies in the regions you are responsible for. As Sales Manager you will play a pivotal role in shaping and expanding the Tony’s Open Chain business in the Netherlands and the rest of the mainland Europe!

As the primary point of contact for all Mission Allies under your purview, you will proactively engage with them to maintain a meaningful connection in true Tony’s fashion. Regular updates on our latest impact insights and evolving pricing strategies will ensure that our Mission Allies are well-informed and engaged. Additionally, you will seize every opportunity to encourage volume growth by introducing an expanded TOC product range, which may involve incorporating additional brands or diversifying product categories. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Head of Sales, Tony's Open Chain, based also in Amsterdam. Here is what you will do:

  • Drive TOC sales in Benelux and the rest of the mainland Europe to achieve our rapid impact and revenue growth aspirations and make a significant contribution to driving issue and brand awareness.
  • Generate and pursue client leads to identify new partners who will champion our brand and mission, responding to both inbound opportunities but also developing our acquisition approach further.
  • Collaborate with the Tony’s market teams to leverage our existing business network.
  • Identify growth opportunities and ensure the TOC team is meeting revenue targets by acquiring new clients.
  • Act as a Tony’s advocate in promoting our brand and purpose.
  • Travel within the Netherlands and the rest of the mainland Europe to connect with our current and future Mission Allies and  to West Africa to connect with the TOC team on a regular basis.

Job requirements

  • Experience in managing and driving sales and growth with a portfolio of global clients, ideally within the cocoa and/or FMCG industry.
  • Proven track record of acquiring new clients through different sales strategies and ways of persuasion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch & English as well as marvellous stakeholder management and networking skills: Ability to work with and influence colleagues and decision-making at various levels of organization. Bonus points if you are comfortable with communicating in German or French too.
  • Eagerness to work in a fast-paced scaleup environment and deal smoothly with the changes that come with a growing company.
  • Ideally understanding of the flow of cocoa beans within the supply chain while also cultivating the ability to empathize with the buyer's perspective and grasp their unique insights into their own supply chain.
  • Motivated to raise the bar and challenge both yourself and team Tony's Open Chain to increase our ambition and successfully achieve our mission. You embrace the opportunity to learn from mistakes along the way.
  • We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the Amsterdam office on average 3 days a week. More is fine too!
