Supply Chain Manager

Job description

Why we are here

Tony’s Open Chain is an industry-led initiative dedicated to empowering chocolate brands to revolutionize their cocoa supply chains and lead the way in sustainability. By becoming Mission Allies of Tony's Open Chain, brands make a commitment to traceability, fair pricing by paying the living income reference price for cocoa and fostering long-term partnerships with cooperative partners to uplift farmers and cultivate thriving cocoa communities.

To facilitate the participation of more Mission Allies in Tony's Open Chain, we work with a range of cocoa sourcing- and trading partners that buy from our partner cooperatives in Ghana & Cote d’Ivoire. We also ensure Mission Allies can work with the cocoa processing- and chocolate manufacturing partners of their preference. All these partners, referred to as our Tony’s Open Chain Supply Network, invest in establishing fully segregated and traceable cocoa supply chains. This enables them to handle and process the segregated cocoa beans, cocoa mass, and cocoa butter of Tony's Open Chain.

Tony’s Open Chain is growing rapidly, with 20 Mission Allies to date that have already committed to sourcing cocoa through Tony's Open Chain. Among them are Albert Heijn, ALDI, Jumbo, Hema, Ben & Jerry's, Waitrose and Feastables. Together, we are forging a path toward a more sustainable and ethical cocoa industry. Join us in making a difference through Tony's Open Chain!

What you will do

We are looking for a new Cocoa Supply Chain Specialist to join the Tony’s Open Chain (TOC) team based in Amsterdam! Your #1 goal is to manage Tony's Open Chain Supply Network, together with one other Supply Chain Specialist. While you work together to optimize the chain end to end, you both have your own focus area. Your expertise will be the second part of the chain: you will work closely with a broad network of processing and manufacturing partners to ensure in-time delivery of traceable TOC cocoa products for our Mission Allies, including Tony’s Chocolonely, according to clear TOC processing standards that protect the credibility of our claims (a standard which you’ll help to define, by the way!). You make sure we (over)deliver on our promises to both Mission Allies and farmers. By doing this, you manage the operational infrastructure that enables Tony’s Open Chain to deliver its ambition to source 80.000mT in the next 3 years.

We're seeking a process-improver by heart with a natural talent for managing diverse types of stakeholders while juggling a multitude of projects. You love the combination of masterfully steering daily operations with championing the scalability of the supply chain processes and systems that will define the future of Tony’s Open Chain. If you're a supply chain specialist yearning to make a mark in the chocolate industry with us, this is your moment. You will report directly to the Head of Tony's Open Chain Operations and have no direct reports.

All wrapped up

  • Design and implement the supply chain model that can support the growth strategy for our TOC Supply Network. You’ll design and implement the processes and governing structures that will enable us to rapidly scale the number of cocoa processors and manufacturers we work with without scaling our team at the same rate.
  • Be the first point of contact for all cocoa processing partners on behalf of TOC. You set up partnership contracts, onboard them into our processes and standards, and ensure a warm yet effective relationship for TOC to reach its goals.
  • Ensure the supply chain network is set up to meet future demand from our Mission Allies. You create short- and long-term demand outlooks and ensure the right supply chain partners are onboarded to TOC to meet our Mission Ally needs. A very concrete example: our partner Albert Heijn has recently committed to expand to all its cocoa products on the shelf. You’ll work together with our sales team and Albert Heijn to ensure we have the partners and processes to facilitate this over the coming 3 years.
  • Design and standardize ways of collaborating between TOC, supply chain partners, and Mission Allies. Among these are partner onboarding processes, sales processes, forecasting and planning, stock management, invoicing, and innovation initiatives.
  • Define and continuously sharpen a TOC Audit Standard to ensure that TOC and Mission Allies can make trustworthy claims about impact. You oversee a full roll-out of a diligent but pragmatic and scalable auditing process and make sure that all partners stick to it and are checked against the standards by auditors.
  • Research and introduce new appropriate tools to automate processes, in close collaboration with the TOC's Tech Lead.
  • Be the sparring partner for our sales team and Mission Allies to ensure they can implement the right supply chain set-up for their needs. You have an eye for balancing standardization with scalability, and you know how to manage exceptions in case the opportunity is big enough.
