Packaging Performance Engineer

  • Hybrid

Job description

Why we are here
Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. We are an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes impact. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example, demonstrating that ethical practices and success can go hand in hand. Through Tony's Open Chain (TOC), mission allies like Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi have embraced a fairer, more transparent supply chain for their chocolate too.

What you will do
We are looking for a new
Packaging Performance Engineer to join our Operations team in Amsterdam. This role is pivotal in driving shelf ready packaging (SRP) renovation and optimizations, enhancing our co-packing capabilities, and supporting new product development (NPD) in packaging production. You will also be responsible for managing and implementing packaging machine investments across markets, whether in our own factory or with co-manufacturers and co-packers.

This is an individual contributor role reporting to our Head of Engineering and Manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with our chocolate factory team in Belgium, local operations teams across our Europe and North America as well as finance, new product development and operations teams in Amsterdam.

All wrapped up, you will be responsible for

  • Packaging Machine Engineering – You have a comprehensive understanding of all packaging techniques and locations across the markets where Tony’s is present. You identify new opportunities and partners and manage relationships with both existing and new equipment suppliers.

  • Production Capacity – You are responsible for capacity improvement projects, balancing in-house and external production.

  • Product Innovations – You represent the engineering perspective in NPD project teams, ensuring plans are financially viable and scalable across our markets. You act as the link between our product team and machine suppliers, ensuring plans are brought to life on time and within budget.

  • Building Business Cases – You fully understand the cost structure of our production fees and know how to influence this price through our innovation choices. You create business cases for operational improvement projects and identify where we can improve efficiency, whether in production itself or in the location where it occurs.

Job requirements

  • Previous packaging machine experience in the consumer-packaged goods industry.

  • Experience working with innovation and NPD teams.

  • Project management experience: you have successfully delivered cross-functional projects on time and within budget.

  • Technical affinity: you get excited whenever you have the chance to talk about big machines.

  • Data-driven decision maker: you utilize data to identify process improvements and make objective, informed decisions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills in English.

  • Proactive attitude, strong prioritization skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Eagerness to work in an international and multicultural environment.

  • Resiliency in a dynamic and fast-growing organization – you bring structure to the chaos.

  • We value being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the Amsterdam office on average three days a week. More is fine too!

  • Bonus points if you are familiar with the chocolate industry!

Our benefits (the icing on the cake)

At Tony's you will get the opportunity to be part of something extraordinary; first and foremost, by making real impact in the world but also enjoying the nice benefits we provide as you help us succeed. We’re dedicated to enabling all Tonys to grow and develop their careers and therefore we offer training programs, regular feedback cycles, coaching and a generous L&D budget. We also offer a wide range of additional benefits, including a luxurious vega-lunch, company bonus, minimum of 28 holidays, inspirational team updates, unforgettable events and unlimited chocolate. But we also know chocolate won’t cover the bills, so we’ve made sure your salary is just as rewarding, for this role that means a salary between 63k – 78k on a yearly basis, including holiday pay.

Sounds like you?

Are you passionate about making a difference in the world? Look no further! If you're ready to take the chocolate industry to new heights with us, we'd love to hear from you! Please send your direct application, no agencies. We can't wait to hear from you!

At Tony's we are convinced that diversity of thought, background and perspectives will make us stronger (...just like the different flavors of our chocolate assortment). Our mission is founded on principles of equity and justice, and we are actively seeking candidates who bring new perspectives and life experiences, especially from underrepresented groups. We look forward to your application!
