Compliance & Impact Reporting Specialist, Tony's Open Chain

  • Hybrid

Job description

Why we are here
Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. We are an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes impact. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example, demonstrating that ethical practices and success can go hand in hand. Through
Tony's Open Chain (TOC), mission allies like Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi have embraced a fairer, more transparent supply chain for their chocolate too.

What you will do
As our
Compliance & Impact Reporting Specialist, you’ll lead the production and assurance of the annual Tony’s Open Chain Impact Report, ensuring it’s clear, accurate, and compliant with current and upcoming regulations (e.g. Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). You’ll keep our external KPIs sharp and credible by coordinating data governance across stakeholders, running the assurance process with our third-party auditor, and strengthening how we measure, learn, and improve year-on-year through our Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Framework.

You’ll work internationally across Tony’s Open Chain, with regular touchpoints across the full TOC team, and you’ll engage with external partners such as third-party assurance providers, industry benchmarking initiatives, civil society partners, and researchers and consultants. You’ll also help us stay transparent and honest in how we communicate our impact and approach because credibility is everything when you’re trying to change an industry. This role is part of our Tony’s Open Chain team and is based in Amsterdam. You’ll report to External Affairs Manager, Tony's Open Chain.

All wrapped up, you will

  • Lead the annual publishing of the Tony’s Open Chain Impact Report: Oversee integrated reporting, write, and publish a best-in-class annual Impact Report that reflects realities on the ground and aligns with external reporting standards (e.g. GRI, CSRD).

  • Drive external KPI assurance and credibility: Lead the end-to-end third-party assurance process from TOC’s side, coordinating inputs, timelines, and evidence so our impact claims are independently substantiated.

  • Own and evolve TOC’s KPI set: Define, update, and maintain TOC’s external KPIs so they remain relevant, robust, and useful for learning while showcasing progress year-on-year.

  • Formulate claims and guide responsible communications and positioning: Oversee Mission Ally reporting, validate on-pack claims, and provide guidance in line with legislative developments (e.g. EmpCo, Green Claims Directive).

  • Coordinate due diligence documentation and transparency: Collaborate with 5 Sourcing Principles specialists to translate due diligence work into clear policies, protocols, and externally facing publications that demonstrate TOC’s approach transparently and honestly (e.g. CSDDD).

  • Lead evidence-based Evaluation & Learning: Bring the “outside-in” lens to evaluation and learning, strengthen MEL practices, integrate risk and due diligence data into learning cycles, and ensure learnings feed back into strategy and execution.

  • Benchmark and build thought leadership through research: Initiate and support research partnerships, provide contextualized data insights, and integrate external findings into TOC’s strategy, communications, or stakeholder engagement ensuring TOC remains a trusted, industry leading change initiative.

Job requirements

Our new flavor:

  • Brings reporting + assurance expertise: You demonstrate strong experience in integrated reporting, external validation, and assurance processes; comfortable with coordinating third parties and ensuring high-quality, audit-ready documentation.

  • Navigates evolving regulation with confidence: You apply working knowledge of (or strong learning agility toward) legislation and reporting frameworks such as CSRD, GRI, and relevant due diligence requirements (e.g. CSDDD), translating them into practical reporting and governance actions.

  • Brings very strong project management skills: Ability to balance priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders with care and clarity. Experience in leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects end-to-end, staying calm under pressure, and delivering within deadlines without losing quality.

  • Writes crisp, clear, and credible stories with data: You summarize complex information accurately and accessibly, balancing transparency with nuance, especially under short timelines and multiple review rounds.

  • Thinks strategically, executes brilliantly: You future-proof KPI frameworks, spot trends and shifts in sustainability benchmarking, and translate insights into action.

  • Coordinates stakeholders like a pro: You build alignment across TOC sub-teams, Tony’s Chocolonely sustainability colleagues, and external partners (assurance providers, benchmarking initiatives, civil society, researchers). You interact with others and communicate with care, clarity, and backbone.

  • Strong understanding of combining mission and business with a strategic mindset: Ability to see the big picture, but not afraid to roll up your sleeves to ensure brilliant execution.

  • Eagerness to work in a fast-paced scaleup environment: bringing clarity and cohesion across diverse teams.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, collaboration and communication skills in English, bonus points if you also know French.

  • We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the office on average 3 days a week. More is fine too!

  • Believe wholeheartedly in Tony’s purpose. You live our core values: outspoken, in it together, entrepreneurial, raise the bar and makes you smile.

  • Bonus sprinkles: Experience with impact measurement / MEL frameworks, cocoa or agricultural sustainability programs, or working in (or alongside) multi-partner initiatives.
