Chocolate Technology Engineer
- Hybrid
Job description
Why we are here
Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. We are an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes impact. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example, demonstrating that ethical practices and success can go hand in hand. Through Tony's Open Chain (TOC), mission allies like Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi have embraced a fairer, more transparent supply chain for their chocolate too.
What you will do
We are looking for a Chocolate Technology Engineer to join our Operations team in Amsterdam. In this role, you will ensure that new chocolate product development projects are seamlessly integrated into production by mapping out methods and implementing them on the line when CAPEX investments are required. You will take ownership of machinery, from couverture systems to processing equipment, and manage CAPEX projects initiated by Operations to deliver efficient, high-quality production solutions.
You will work closely with our chocolate factory team in Belgium, co-manufacturers, and cross-functional teams in Amsterdam, acting as the technical counterpart for chocolate machinery developments. This is an individual contributor role reporting to our Head of Engineering and Manufacturing, offering the chance to make a real impact on our chocolate innovation and production capabilities.
All wrapped up, you’re responsible for:
Chocolate machine engineering: Oversee machinery performance and ensure optimal operation across all chocolate processing stages.
Moulding techniques and capabilities: Maintain a clear overview of moulding techniques and production locations, while identifying new opportunities and partners from a capability perspective.
Supplier relationships: Build and manage direct relationships with equipment suppliers, both existing and new, to secure the best technical solutions.
Support for product development: Collaborate with the product idea generation team to explore new options and translate them into feasible projects.
Production capacity and continuity: Drive capacity improvement projects and manage external production to ensure business continuity and support growth.
New manufacturing projects: Lead engineering aspects of new manufacturing initiatives, whether in-house or with external partners, and oversee the transfer of current and future innovations to US local production.
Product innovation feasibility: Act as the engineering lead in project teams, ensuring concepts are economically viable and scalable, and serve as the link between product teams and machine suppliers.
Business case development: Analyse production cost structures and create business cases for operational improvement projects, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce costs through innovation choices.

Outstanding communication and collaboration skills in English – you can explain complex technical concepts clearly and build strong relationships across teams and cultures.

Ideally experience with multiple chocolate production techniques – from moulding to enrobing, you understand the nuances that make great chocolate.
Financial awareness of production processes – you understand cost structures and how smart engineering choices can influence the bottom line.
We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the office on average 3 days a week. More is fine too!
Believe wholeheartedly in Tony’s purpose. You live our core values: outspoken, in it together, entrepreneurial, raise the bar and makes you smile.
Our benefits (the icing on the cake)
At Tony's you will get the opportunity to be part of something extraordinary; first and foremost, by making real impact in the world but also enjoying the nice benefits we provide as you help us succeed. We’re dedicated to enabling all Tonys to grow and develop their careers and therefore we offer training programs, regular feedback cycles, coaching and a generous L&D budget. We also offer a wide range of additional benefits, including a luxurious vega-lunch, company bonus, minimum of 28 holidays, inspirational team updates, unforgettable events and unlimited chocolate. But we also know chocolate won’t cover the bills, so we’ve made sure your salary is just as rewarding, for this role that means a salary between 64k and 81k on a yearly basis, including holiday pay.
