ESG Reporting & Assurance Specialist

Job description

We are in search of a ESG Reporting & Assurance Specialist to join our team at Tony’s Open Chain. The #1 goal is to ensure that our impact is accurately researched, accessed, and communicated in our reporting. You will play a pivotal role in leading external evaluation efforts and facilitating learning through monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities.

In this role, you will spearhead efforts to ensure our '5 Sourcing Principles approach' exceeds industry standards in setting a new norm in cocoa, especially regarding cocoa sourcing. Ensuring it eradicates child labour, enables farmers to earn a long-term living income and is deforestation free or ultimately even environment positive. This involves conducting in-depth research, reporting on environmental and socio-economic impacts, and implementing strategies for responsible resource management. As an expert in monitoring, evaluation, assurance and impact reporting, you will establish ambitious benchmarks for sustainability in cocoa-sourcing regions that can be externally validated and corroborated and collaborate with colleagues – internally and externally - to drive positive change.

Eager to elevate our impact? Here’s what you’ll be tasked with:

  • Develop and implement robust reporting and assurance frameworks aligned with our 5 sourcing principles, including traceable cocoa beans, fair pricing, farmer empowerment, long-term relationships, and quality/productivity commitment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to establish effective KPIs and reporting metrics, continuously innovating and validating assurance processes to enhance transparency and accountability.
  • Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for optimization, driving process improvements and informed decision-making.
  • Engage stakeholders to gather feedback and insights, fostering collaboration and ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on assurance activities and outcomes, delivering actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and regulatory requirements, proactively incorporating advancements into reporting and assurance strategies, and driving a culture of excellence in reporting and assurance.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in fields such as Environmental Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, or related disciplines is essential, with a notable emphasis on research and project management experience.
  • Ideally 7+ years of experience in research and report writing, ideally in environmental sustainability or social impact.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in research methodologies, data analysis, and report writing, ideally including visual data presentation.
  • Ability to communicate complex research findings effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and detail-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in English required; fluency in additional languages is a plus.
  • We are all about being more in person than apart. This means we offer flexibility but see each other in the Amsterdam office on average 3 days a week. More is fine!
  • Motivated to raise the bar and challenge both yourself and Team Tony's to increase ambition and successfully achieve our mission. Embrace the opportunity to learn from mistakes along the way.
  • Strong belief in Tony's mission and wholeheartedly embody our core values: outspoken, willful, entrepreneurial, and always bringing a smile.
  • Last but not least, you can deal smoothly with the challenges that come with a growing company, and positively contribute to team Tony's performance.
