We are looking for a new Product Development Specialist to join our team in New York City! In this role, your main goal is to develop new chocolate products for innovation and renovation projects for the US market. You lead the technical product and packaging development processes from briefing to first production and timely launch, while meeting Tony’s principles and quality standards.

We are looking for a food scientist who is ready to bring their expertise and develop surprising chocolate products that delight choco fans around the world. If you have demonstrated hands-on experience in developing products in the food industry, we want to hear from you!

You will be the first development specialist in our US team and collaborate closely with your global product team based in Amsterdam. You report directly to the Product Development Manager. This is a unique opportunity to join a revolutionary team making serious impact in the chocolate industry!


What you will do:

  • You are responsible for the development of our US products either by driving localization of our EU portfolio or by developing new products and packaging for the US market.
  • You bring chocolate product development from kitchen to execution, from first formulation up until a successful first production. You will research and set up the most viable option for product development and testing in the US.
  • You ensure that projects are run smoothly and proactively suggest improvements. You conduct sensory evaluations for new and existing products to ensure quality and consistency, and to get directions for further development.
  • You set up, prepare, execute and evaluate production trials, together with our teams and co-manufacturers. You identify and actively manage risk in projects in close collaboration with external and internal project managers in the US and Europe.
  • You know how to translate a brief from the marketing team into technical product and packaging attributes, and you make sure to always add some Tony’s magic to be able to disrupt in the category.

Job requirements

  • You have 5+ years of experience in product development in the food sector. You bring in a deep understanding of food science, chemistry, technology and/or engineering.
  • You have experience managing complex product and packaging projects successfully and simultaneously in a scaling production environment. You manage all resources effectively to drive projects timely and on-brief.
  • You work proactively and autonomously and know how to lead development processes from start to finish.
  • You are able to travel to co-manufacturers/co-packers when needed (5-10% of your time).
  • You feel confident under pressure and when finding solutions to complex challenges. You maintain a positive attitude despite adversity.
  • We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the New York City office on average 3 days a week. More is fine!
