Commodity Manager

On-site

Job description

Why we are here
Tony’s Chocolonely is committed to ending exploitation in cocoa. We are an impact company that makes chocolate, not a chocolate company that makes an impact. With incredibly tasty chocolate, we lead by example, demonstrating that ethical practices and success can go hand in hand. Through Tony's Open Chain (TOC), mission allies like Albert Heijn, Ben & Jerry's, Jokolade, and Aldi have embraced a fairer, more transparent supply chain for their chocolate.

What you will do

We are seeking a highly skilled Commodity Manager to lead our commodity strategy. Our procurement spend is exposed to the commodities market. With its fluctuations in available resources and related prices this strategic role is critical to our business objectives and will have a big impact on our mission and success. As Commodity Manager at Tony's you will focus on procurement, commodity management, and developing a future-proof strategy. You'll be responsible for developing and adjusting our buying policy depending on market conditions and aligned with Tony's risk appetite. We expect you to closely monitor market trends, make strategic recommendations, and redefine our approach for strategic commodities. In addition to the responsibilities mentioned earlier, a significant part of your role will be to ensure cost-effective sourcing of our non-cocoa commodities, secure a reliable supply, and actively contribute to our non-cocoa sustainability strategy.

All wrapped up

  • Lead sourcing strategies for cocoa, dairy, and sugar to align with Tony’s needs and risk management.
  • Continuously track market trends in line with business context, trigger/advise purchase decisions in line with our Commodities Committee (that includes stakeholders from our Procurement – Supply Chain – Finance team).
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive commodities strategy, regularly review methodologies and be mindful of potential risk mitigations.
  • Co-create and implement sustainability strategies for non-cocoa raw materials, aligning with Tony’s goals.
  • Make sure Tony's has competitive prices for non-cocoa ingredients, leveraging on market research and co-developing alternatives with our main chocolate suppliers.
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings to support informed decision-making with up-to-date market insights.

Job requirements

Our perfect New Edition

  • 5+ years of experience in the commodities market, with a strong preference for cocoa industry expertise or similar commodities like coffee.
  • Ability to work seamlessly across different teams, influencing and collaborating to achieve shared goals.
  • Balances day-to-day operations with long-term strategic planning, ensuring both immediate and future needs are met.
  • Ready to dive into the details, managing tasks directly when needed while maintaining a broad perspective.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a solid financial acumen for analyzing complex data and making informed decisions.
  • Thrives in high-pressure, fast-paced environments, making sound decisions with limited information.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing effective buying strategies.
  • We are all about being more in person than apart; this means we offer flexibility but see each other in the office on average 3 days a week. More is fine too!
  • Believe wholeheartedly in Tony’s mission. You live our core values: outspoken, willful, entrepreneurial and makes you smile.
